  • Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse

    Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse on a cliff at the westernmost of the Shimane Peninsula was established in 1903. The distance is 63.30 m from the sea surface to the light of the light tower.
    The tower height of the lighthouse is 43.65 m from the ground to the tower top, the tallest stone lighthouse in Japan.
    The pure white outer wall of hard stone quarried in Mihonoseki Town, Matsue City, and the inner wall of brick have a special dual structure with a space between the outer and inner walls.
    The luminous intensity of 480,000 candela reaches about 40 km offshore at night. The light has still actively protected the safety of the sea for over 100 years of age.

    The beach is located at 1 km west of Izumo Taisha Shrine and known for myths of the Land Offering and the Land Pulling.
    The perpendicular cliff behind the beach is where Okuninushi-no-Mikoto and Takemikazuchi-no-Onokami negotiated the Land Offering, and, at the south of the beach, connected to Nagahama Beach
    (Sono no Nagahama) said to have been the rope tying islands during the Land Pulling. The beach also welcomes all the deities from all over Japan on October 10th of the old lunar calendar.

    The winery is a large theme park for local craft wine, about 2 km east of Izumo Taisha Shrine, along Route 431.

    Taisha Town, Izumo City, where the winery is located, is one of the most famous producers in Japan of hothouse grapes, especially Delaware grapes from April to June.
    The aromatic and juicy grapes are known for the high sugar content and quality, and appreciated in the market.
    Shimane Winery was established in March 1986 to take advantage of the high-quality grapes.
    The winery is a southern European-style building with the background of green mountains, offering a wide variety of not only wine, but also Shimane Wagyu beef, local sweets, and other gourmet foods!
